About the study
Dr. Matt Therrell (UA Department of Geography), Dr. Glenn Tootle (UA Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering) and Dr. Clay Tucker (UA Dendrochronology Lab), along with a team of seven undergraduate researchers (Abigail Phillips, Calli Day, Emily Otter, Gabriella Thacker, Hannah Shedd, Natalie Crisci, and Zachary Foley) traveled from The University of Alabama to the St. Johns River in central Florida to collect tree ring data from Bald Cypress trees in order to conduct research reconstructing the river streamflow.
There is a compelling need to develop streamflow reconstructions in both central and south Florida to address concerns of surface water supply... The goal is to produce a master chronology [of the St. Johns River streamflow] for use in future streamflow reconstructions in Florida.
